When it comes to your dog?s health, exercise on a regular basis can determine whether or not Fido lives a long happy life, a long painful life or passes over that rainbow bridge before his/her time. The benefits that come with a healthy pet are astounding, but for so many people they can not seem to grasp the concept of having a healthy companion whether it be through sheer ignorance, or laziness.
Exercise for your dog can come in many different forms, and is often determined by the willingness of the owner to commit time to the family pet. Another factor that must be considered is the breed of dog that you own, as some definitely need more exercise than others and it is a good dog owner that will go out of their way if they need too in order to meet their pet?s exercise requirements.
Simple forms of exercise that can be used to keep Fido happy and healthy can include: daily walks for older pets, trips to the dog park for more active dogs or playing indoors for the smaller pooches.
Exercise has many benefits for our pets, ranging from weight control and the reduced likelyhood of your dog resorting to distructive behavior when you leave it alone at home, to better overall mental health and proper socialization. Dogs need to be kept engaged if you will as when they are bored and have a lot of pent up energy do to no outlet, they tend to find disruptive ways of blowing off steam.
How often do you pick up the leash?
