GUATEMALA CITY ? Two earthquakes shook a wide part of Guatemala on Monday, causing some reported damage but no known deaths.
The U.S. Geological Survey said a magnitude-4.8 quake just after noon (2 p.m. EDT; 1800 GMT) was followed by a magnitude-5.8 earthquake at 12:34 p.m. (2:34 p.m. EDT; 18:34 GMT).
Local media reported that the temblors were felt in most of the country, especially in Guatemala City, and said a wall fell on several houses in the town of Cuilapa. The epicenter was about 32 miles (53 kilometers) southeast of the capital.
The first quake struck at a depth of 38 miles (61 kilometers) and the second at 25 miles (39 kilometers).
