Gay, 29, who won world titles at both distances in 2007, has been plagued by injuries in recent years and fears his body may not be able to handle a sprint double.
Last summer he was forced to cut short his season to undergo surgery on a long-standing hip injury and this year he has been troubled by serious groin and tendon problems.
Gay said: ?It only makes sense to focus on the 100 after the setbacks I have had this year. We are going to put everything in one basket at the trials. I don?t even have a qualifying time for the 200.?
He added: ?Except for a little bit in the Fall, until five weeks ago I was off the track, just trying do rehab. In January I wasn?t even able to jog. Now I am able to jog a little bit, go a little bit faster than a jog.?
Gay?s injury woes leave him with precious little time to get ready for the US Olympic trials in June, where only the first three athletes to cross the finish line will be selected for the American team for London.
Tyson knows all about the sudden-death nature of the US selection system after he suffered an injury at the 2008 Olympic trials and failed to qualify in the 200m.
He did gain selection in the 100m but suffered more injury problems in China and failed to make the final.
?I came up real short in 2008 and I just want to stay healthy and have a fair chance at a medal in London,? he said.
?At the end of the day, I am just going to have to put in the hardest three months of my life and get ready for the Olympic trials. That is the only thing I can do. I can?t look back now.?
