(Reuters) ? The Miami Marlins have acquired pitcher Carlos Zambrano from the Chicago Cubs for fellow right-hander Chris Volstad, the Major League Baseball teams said on Thursday.
Zambrano, 30, had spent 11 seasons with the Cubs, compiling a 125-81 record and a 3.60 earned run average.
The three-time All-Star from Venezuela went 9-7 (4.82 earned run average) in 24 starts for Chicago last season but missed the last part of the season after being ejected from an August 12 game with the Atlanta Braves for throwing inside to Chipper Jones.
Zambrano left the stadium early, telling team mates he was retiring. He later changed his mind but was placed on the disqualified list by the Cubs on August 13 and did not pitch again.
The Marlins will be responsible for $2.5 million of the $18 million Zambrano is scheduled to make this year, with the Cubs paying the rest, MLB.com reported.
Volstad, 25, posted a 5-13 record with a 4.89 earned run average in 29 starts with the Marlins last season.
Overall he was 32-39 in four seasons with the Marlins.
