Japan protests China boats' entry in disputed area (AP)

TOKYO ? Japan says it has protested to China after two Chinese patrol boats entered waters near islands in the East China Sea claimed by both countries.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano says two Chinese vessels entered Japanese waters off the islands known as Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China early Wednesday. He says the boats left the area about 30 minutes later after warnings by Japanese Coast Guard patrol boats and aircraft.

Edano says Japan's government "strongly" protested to China and reiterated its claim to the islands.

Last year, a collision between a Chinese fishing trawler and Japanese patrol boats sparked a diplomatic spat. Japan says Wednesday's incident is the first time China has entered Japanese waters since then.

Lease or Buy? That is Always the Question with Car Financing | All ...

Leasing is a perfectly viable and legitimate way to finance a new car. Although leasing offers attractive benefits, it is somewhat more complex than buying with a loan. This means there can be pitfalls if a decision to lease is made for the wrong reasons.

Therefore, a comparison of leasing versus buying is always a useful exercise when considering automobile financing. One option will generally be decidedly better than the other in any specific situation.

Let?s first look at the financial side of the analysis.

Leasing always results in lower monthly payments than a conventional automobile loan, assuming the same vehicle, same down payment, same interest rate, and same term. Lease payments will be as much as 60% less than loan payments. Therefore, if monthly payments are your most important consideration, leasing is a good financial option (although there may be other reasons you shouldn?t lease ? see below).

However, in the long term, leasing actually costs more than buying assuming that the buyer keeps his/her vehicle for a long time after the loan has been paid. It doesn?t take rocket science to figure out that leasing a new car every two or three years costs more than buying one car and keeping it until it falls apart. So if long-term cost is your highest priority, then leasing is not for you.

Even if leasing makes financial sense to you, there may be reasons that it won?t work for you.

If you drive more than about 15,000 miles a year, leasing is not a good option for you. The reason is that leasing is designed for people who typically drive only average miles and don?t want to pay for the entire value of a vehicle. They only pay for the relatively small part of the value of the vehicle that they actually use.

Leasing may not be a good option, too, if you don?t typically maintain your vehicles well, carry only minimum insurance, like to modify your vehicles, or prefer the idea of ownership.

Furthermore, if you expect lifestyle changes (marriage, divorce, job change) that might cause you to want to end your lease before its normal end date, don?t lease. Leases are designed in a way that makes it both troublesome and expensive to terminate early.

Virginia Business - Opinion: International trade reprised

August 22, 2011 4:25 PM

Editor?s note: In March, Virginia Business ran several columns by Colleen Jolly of The 24-hour Co.in Falls Church as she traveled with the state?s Virginia Economic Development Partnership to Australia.? Her company got some business from that trip. Now she returns on her own to explore other business opportunities.

A mere five months have passed and I find myself sitting in an airport heading back to Oz, Down Under, Australia ? the other side of the known world.? It?s a 15-hour plus flight to Sydney.? My March trip to the country with the VEDP (Virginia Economic Development Partnership) was successful.? So I am returning for a paying gig, conducting a visual communications/information graphic, one-day seminar with our new partners, Shipley Asia Pacific. I am excited to be heading back and a little scared.

International business is hard. Truly, any business is hard, and selling services, by the hour or by the training day is particularly hard. On my good days, I laugh at people with their guaranteed
contract work and prefer my slogging it out in the trenches.?

Yet because this job is hard, it is easy to fail.? Sure, my first trip to Oz was great. The meetings were
great, the follow-up from the VEDP and the consultants in Australia was fantastic. But when faced with actual, real success, I think it is safe to say that we were stunned.

Now, not only have I been successful, but I have to deliver on all those promises.? I am faced with the potential that a market exists in Sydney or in other parts of Australia (which is the size of the continental United States). Success is quite possibly the best and the worst thing that can happen to any
entrepreneur.

The sights and sounds of Sydney are still fresh in my mind, and I look forward to visiting
old haunts.? I have done trainings before, in the U.S., South Africa, Germany, and the
United Kingdom. I am happy, no, cautiously optimistic and infinitely curious about what is going to happen next. In speaking with a representative from the State of Victoria government last week,
I paused to find the right words to respond to her question of ?What, precisely, are your intentions regarding Australia?? Then she paused and prompted, ?To have fun?? So, to start, I shall have fun. I will start the fun on a side trip to Tasmania and then report from Sydney on my newfound Australian
success.
